The press report came in yesterday and it’s another step forward for the inevitable change: the BVMI (union of the German music industry) has decided to count in streaming numbers for their calculation of the German sales charts.
„Premium- as well as Free Streams (which means streams of the platform that will be financed by commercials) will both count for the Streaming Charts. A stream with a listening length of minimum 31 seconds will count. The Streaming Charts will be calculated on track basis, every reported stream counts the same.“
With this announcement, the BVMI reacts to the groundbreaking change in the consumer’s behaviour: music is about to be streamed for a flatrate price, not bought anymore.
