The empire that is called Shazam is getting bigger and bigger. As USA Today reports, Warner Music Group and music discovery app Shazam will team up to launch a new record label with the intent of discovering and signing new acts. No name or details are known for the label, but the basis is a very good one with Shazam uniting 420 million worldwide users that are always looking and tagging new tracks and artists. There’s no better way to check out what the people like and what is new. As Warner Music chief operation officer Rob Wiesenthal explains:
“While data and crowd sourced analyses will never be a substitute for the expertise and instincts of our (artist & repertoire) professionals, we do believe the information we obtain for this new label will provide very useful signals that will bolster our ability to find the stars of tomorrow.”
